30 years peaceful revolution – Fall of the Berlin Wall

Anniversary celebrations end with spectacular fireworks display at the Brandenburg Gate

The festival week “30 Years Peaceful Revolution – Fall of the Wall” culminated on 9th November  with a large stage show in front of the Brandenburg Gate. In addition to speeches by Berlin’s mayor Michael Müller and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, numerous artists such as Anna Loos, Dirk Michaelis and Die Zöllner performed and delighted more than 100,000 guests on the festival mile and millions of spectators in front of the screens.

After more than two hours of live show, we initiated the grand finale with our fireworks display at the Brandenburg Gate. Special technical fireworks effects were ignited from two cherry pickers on Pariser Platz, which in combination with the light and video show on the stage, gave an impressive overall picture. Our creative director Thomas Schenkluhn chose selected Italian and Spanish effects for his show design, which let the night sky over the Quadriga shine in bright colors.

We were facing with a multitude of challenges for this project: The very short-term decision to integrate pyrotechnics into the final show required a particularly quick, intensive and professional coordination – not only with the technical trades on site but also with the responsible federal authorities and their special units. Due to the close proximity to the Brandenburg Gate, the embassies located on Pariser Platz and the invited politicians from Germany and from abroad, our setup was situated in a high-security area, which also made the time slots for preparation and construction on site very tight. Thanks to our many years of experience and our professional team on site, the show could take place as planned.

The big after-show party and the European Club Night started with Westbam. Our CO2 jets and CO2 guns were in action on the stage until the early hours of the morning and set powerful accents for the artists.
