The ISTAF INDOOR is the world’s largest indoor athletics meeting. Every year, top athletes from 25 nations are drawn to Berlin to perform at their best in front of the sold-out stands of the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The 12,500 spectators in the hall not only witness the athletes’ personal best performances or meeting records – world records are even broken here! Sports fans who couldn’t manage to grab tickets can follow the live TV broadcast or the live stream on the Internet together with around 120 million households worldwide.
The disciplines range from sprinting and hurdles, pole vault and long jump to discus throwing. By the way, the latter is a unique indoor discipline in the world and once again underlines the special nature of this event. The ISTAF INDOOR is rightly considered an “athletics party”, as the organisers of the meeting deliberately combine top-class sport with show elements. This creates a great and rousing atmosphere for athletes and spectators, which can also be felt on the screens at home.
The athletes’ presentations as well as the finishes and the best performances in all disciplines are traditionally accompanied by Potsdamer Feuerwerk with special effects. Our flame projectors and fountain machines are in constant use when athletes like Malaika Mihambo, Robert and Christoph Harting or Cindy Roleder break all records. For the long jump, we are responsible for a laser marking to show the current best distance.
Before the official award ceremony begins, we use our flame projectors to provide spectacular fiery accent to live acts such as Wincent Weiss or Nico Santos. Afterwards, golden fountains are ignited for the official press photo of the best ISTAF INDOOR athletes.
The groundbreaking success of this unique sports event speaks for itself and so the organisers of TOP Sportmarketing Berlin GmbH decided to launch a second ISTAF INDOOR in Düsseldorf in 2021.
