As the highlight of the festivities at the Berlin central station, a colorful fireworks display from around 10.30 pm welcomed the Chinese, “Year of the Rat”.

Reinhard Silberberg, state secretary of the Foreign Office, together with the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, the Hon. Ma Canrong, and Ingulf Leuschel, company executive of the German Railway, started the show with the push of a button.

The display was created by a Chinese pyro-designer who was flown in for the occasion and produced and staged by Potsdamer Feuerwerk.
