Summer Solstice Festival

Berlin, 21 June 2008 – Every year, the „longest day of the year“, attracts thousands of visitors to one of Berlin’s most beautiful public gardens. In 2008, the park Britzer Garten celebrated this event, as in the years before, but also introduced some interesting changes: The large lake at the center of the park, the “Großer See”, was illuminated and along the shore promenade, artists dressed as elves or “nature spirits” entertained guests as well as individual musicians. Visitors were led from sight to sight around the lake with performances and music.

Choirs were performing pieces to the theme of „Summer“ on the stage by the little toy-ship harbor.

On a small stage at sunbathing/playing area the Midsummernight’s Dream was shown in a special staging involving the
elements of water, light and fire.

From the eastern lake show spectators could listen to Italian arias being sung from an old fisher boat on the water, along with
readings about the summer solstice, nature and the water.

The lake stage at the “Café on the See” was taken over by tango dancers and musicians playing Argentinian music.

The central plaza served as a relaxed meeting area, enlivened by small musical interludes near the lake shore..

But the greatest highlight was undeniably the spectacular firework set off from the center of the lake, for the first time permitting spectators to see the display from all around the lake – staged and produced by Potsdamer Feuerwerk.
